Tips to Read More (that worked for me)

It’s already March?? If your New Year Resolution in 2021 is to “read more books,” you are in luck because I will be sharing 3 tips to read more this year which I have found helpful.

1. A Kindle/an e-book reader helps!

Are you a reader who reads many books at once? Afraid of damaging your books as you carry them around? A Kindle or an e-book reader allows you to easily and portably carry around many books at once. A 4GB Kindle can store more than 100 e-books. Furthermore, you need not worry about damaging the spine of your e-books on a kindle.

2. Set aside dedicated time for reading

Routine! Routine! Routine! That is the magic trick to getting yourself to read. It is all in the routine. I find setting aside some time before bedtime to read to be the most effective strategy for me.

3. Read books that interest you, not the top picks by other people

For the longest time, I have been trying to read the “classic” books – from authors such as William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, etc. However, I have learnt that I do not need to pander towards what people think are good books in my own leisure reading. On the contrary, when I have freed myself from others’ expectations, I began to develop an interest for reading and found amazing insights from different books in their own ways.

Do not undermine your own interests, and start reading what you love today!
